Color pencil and mixed media of Mike Trout by Cynthia Bluford Mejia
19x24 Color Pencil & Mixed Media
Mike Trout was the most requested player on my list of athletes to paint or draw. I guess, living in Anaheim  has something to do with that.  I'm sure if I was living in another city with a big team, it would be their MVP.

Southern California has big sports teams. In the OC, we have the Angels and Anaheim Duck, across the freeway in Los Angeles we have the Los Angeles Lakers, Kings, Sparks, Dodgers, and now (Back on the Block) the  LA Rams..... What to do...... Take the freeway the other way and you have the San Diego Chargers...

It's easy to see why my head would be spinning from fans I run into expressing their opinion as to who should be on my easel. For this blog, it a Trout party.

When I set out to create the Mike Trout artwork, I really wanted to make sure that I expressed myself in a thoughtful way. I know my perspective is from a woman's point of view, so it could be seen as soft in some areas and vibrant in others, however it will be from the heart.
Since I am a woman and we are built on emotions, my work is very expressive and passionate. I don't see dark and angry, like Batman the Dark night movie. I see, lots of colors and movement.

In the piece above I wanted to express reality and the supernatural, to show his strength and focus, his drive, speed, and the moment of impact. (Eat my dust, you can't touch this) The lighting is that magical moment before the event happens, before the blast into orbit from the bat meeting the ball.

Mike Trout art Oil on Canvas by Cynthia Bluford Mejia

This is Mike Trout Odyssey, A featured work on my website. This was such a fun piece to do. It took a while to do, because I wanted to layer it with glazes and build up the colors. I like to work on the fly once I reach my layering goal. I just let go and let it happen as in this work. I switched to impressionism in some areas. I do that in a number of my works.

I will be adding new work as it comes off the easel, and show my process as well. If you like to see more of my work, you can visit my website.
